Police on patrol run into robbers who snatched 2 cars with toy gun

An attempt by a group of robbers to snatch a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Corolla from its owners plying the Lekki-Epe Expressway was foiled by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

Reports say the robbers who posed as policemen flagged down the cars on the expressway and as the drivers of the cars stopped, four other members of the gang emerged from their hideout holding the victims hostage.

The robbers who had it easy snatching both cars were driving away when they were given a hot chase by RRS operatives, who were on patrol.

However, the robbers who could not keep up with the chase by the police reportedly abandoned the vehicles and ran into the bush leaving a toy gun behind.

The police in a statement on Monday said; “The robbers fled into the bush and abandoned the victims and one of their improvised guns. They were chased into a bush, but no arrest was made.

“The victims disclosed that two of the robbers posed as policemen before another two, who were lurking in the bush, came out, asking them to surrender their keys. They added that they were going to Epe to celebrate the New Year.”

The incident was confirmed by SP Chike Oti, the Lagos State police spokesperson, who informed that the police had intensified patrols along the highways for the safety of road users.
