Ibrahim Idris, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), was said to have been summoned by the presidency on Monday following protest by some policemen in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, over unpaid allowances.

Idris reportedly met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and walked out of the villa around 2pm without speaking with reporters.

The meeting took place hours after some mobile policemen in Maiduguri protested the non-payment of their allowances in the last six months.

The meeting held inside the vice-president’s office.

Jimoh Moshood, force spokesman, had blamed the non-payment on the delay in the passage of the 2018 budget, while denying that there was a protest. He said the officers involved only made inquiries about their allowances.
