Police recover $2m Ferrari after buyer absconded during test drive

German police have tracked down a rare 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO worth 2 million dollars after an alleged buyer sped off with it during a test drive.

The car which once belonged to British racing driver Eddie Irvine, was recovered in the nearby Grevenbroich area, where it was hidden in a garage.

Associate Press revealed that the man, posing as a classic car buyer, had responded to an advertisement for the 1985 racing car and arranged to meet the owner for a test drive.

During the drive, they decided to swap seats so the would-be buyer could take charge of the red GTO. The man sped off leaving the startled owner behind.

Police who released a picture of a middle-aged man two days ago have appealed for witnesses to come forward if they recognize the suspect.
