Police rescue abducted corps member

A corps member serving in Lagos, Onyiwara Chinwe Faith, who was abducted by gunmen on November 29 has been rescued by the police.

The spokesman of the state police command, Bala Elkana confirmed this in a statement Tuesday.

Onyiwara, who was abducted while on her way to attend a Community Developments (CDS) meeting at Ilamija, Epe, was rescued on Tuesday at 2:20 a.m. in a swamp forest around Ilamija Nla, Epe, after a gun duel with her captors.

Elkana said: “Onyiwara Chinwe Faith was abducted on 29/11/2019 while on her way to attend CDS meeting at Ilamija, Epe.

“The abductors demanded a ransom of N50 million but later reduced to N400,000. But no ransom was paid.

“The kidnapper’s ring leader, 31-year-old Moses Ofeye from Ondo State, of Ijaw origin, was arrested with gunshot wounds.

“The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention due to the shock and trauma she experienced and long distance trek. But she is in a stable condition. She has been handed over to the Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC and her family by the state Commissioner of Police.”
