Police rescue another 27 children from suspected trafficker in Taraba

The police in Taraba State on Monday said 27 children have been rescued from one Mary Yakubu, a suspected child trafficker, from whom 33 children were earlier rescued.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, David Misal, who added that the lady had been arrested three times for the same offence.

According to Misal, the children were rescued on Sunday at Tashan Takalma community in Gassol Local Government Area of the state.

He said further that the children comprised of 14 males and 13 females, adding that the suspect is currently undergoing trial, while the recently rescued children have been handed over to the State Ministry of Women Affairs.

The suspect was first arrested on February 26 in Bali while making arrangements to convey some children to an unknown destination. She was again arrested on the 4th of March, 2020.

According to the police spokesman, 23 children were rescued in the first arrest, while 10 children were rescued in the second arrest, before the 27 from her third and latest arrest.
