Police steps into Ondo APC ‘anointing’ crisis

The crisis in the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the anointing of a candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in the state has taken another turn, as the police has stepped in.

The police has sealed off the party’s secretariat as the crisis which led to the purported sack of the state chairman, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, generates more crisis.

It was learnt that serious crisis broke out at the secretariat after supporters of three governorship aspirants, who sacked the chairman and sympathisers of the chairman clashed at the secretariat.

Supporters of Kekemeke are said to have attempted to forcefully eject the faction, who took over the secretariat after Kemeke was removed.

Their action resulted into serious clash between the different groups, warranting the intervention of officers of the Police Command led by the Area Commander in charge of Akure Area Command, before the situation was brought under control.

Meanwhile, the national leadership of the party has waded into the crisis rocking its Ondo chapter and summoned all parties to the dispute for an emergency meeting.

According to Oji Ngofa, the deputy national secretary of the party, who spoke to journalists on the issue, a meeting of all parties involved in the dispute has been called.

He said the leadership of the party has not sanctioned any aspirant for the state coming governorship primary election.

He said that the meeting called to resolve the dispute would hold on Saturday.

Ondo APC has been in serious crisis after aggrieved members accused the leadership of the party of imposing a governorship candidate on the party.
