Fayemi laments women being intimidation in politics

The wife of the Ekiti governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi is about now thanking her stars after she narrowly escaped an attack by suspected hoodlums, on Tuesday afternoon, who hijacked a protest by students of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs. Fayemi was returning from a tour of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state; on an empowerment programme, when her convoy ran into the irate hoodlums.

According to reports, the hoodlums engaged the security details of Fayemi’s wife in a violent clash and allegedly vandalised vehicles in her convoy.

However, Mrs Fayemi narrowly escaped from the scene, when she was taken away to safety by armed security men in the middle of the ensuing chaos.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ekiti Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, who explained that the situation was later brought under control.

“The students did not allow vehicles to move freely and they allegedly vandalised the property of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

“When police went there to dialogue with them, they resisted them. And the wife of the governor who went on a Local Government tour, ran into the barricade mounted on the road.

“The students were reported to have been violent, destroying cars and smashing the windscreens of vehicles.

“At this stage, we were warning that the command would not tolerate hooliganism under any guise.

“We want to assure the public that the police are on top of the situation and our people must go about their normal businesses,” the PPRO said.
