A police constable, Victor Omorokai, has reportedly been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over his alleged involvement in armed robbery.
According to reports, Omorokai, alongside three other policemen who are on the run, drove to Shagamu in a Lexus jeep, when they were on night duty and attacked a 20ft truck loaded with automobile spare parts, tied the driver and his conductor and dumped them into a bush in Ijebu-Ode.
The suspected police robbers were said to have diverted the trailer to Okokomaiko in Lagos State, where the auto parts were allegedly sold to a ready buyer for N30m.
However, the company that owned the spare parts and the truck, alerted the police in Shagamu, who were able to trace the truck to Lagos through its tracking device.
The Lagos State Police Command was said immediately swung into action when it was informed of the development.
Omorokai was arrested when policemen attached to Okokomaiko flagged the trailer and the Lexus jeep down and the occupants opened fire on them. They were reportedly over-powered. He arrested after the shoot out the shoot- out, while others managed to escape.
According to reports, Omorokai, a constable, was attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID before he was transferred to Federal SARS three months ago.
He was said to have confessed during interrogation that the operation was led by one Inspector Taiwo attached to the same unit, adding that the loot was with Taiwo.
The suspected robber was still being interrogated on Sunday, just as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, was said to have ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
However, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, denied the report as untrue.
She said: “It’s not a confirmed story. Ignore it. If investigation reveals they are policemen, we will let you know.”
