Pope Francis, the leader of Catholic Church worldwide, is set to make his first-ever big screen debut, as he has been lined-up to play the role of the Bishop of Rome in a yet-to-be screened movie.

The movie, titled ‘Beyond the Sun’, from the stable of AMBI Pictures, will see the Pope play himself in the new film and it will mark the first time in the history of the church where a sitting Pope will engage in such.

Reports say the idea for the movie came to light when the Pope asked filmmakers to do a movie that communicated Jesus’s message for children.

That led AMBI co-founders, Andrea Lervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi, to finance and produce the family adventure story based on the Gospel of Jesus told in several tales.

The screen play of the movie was written by Graciela Rodriguez and it is reported that all profits from the film will be donated to two Argentinean charities, El Alemendro and Los Hogares de Cristo, which aid at-risk children and young adults.

“Our excitement and gratitude toward His Holiness, Pope Francis, participating in this film is beyond words. This is not just a movie for us, it’s a message, and who better to have on your side to deliver an important societal and spiritual message than the Pope,” said Lervolino in a statement.

“This movie will provide funds to support extremely worthwhile causes that we take very seriously. This message and cause are very dear to the entire AMBI family and we are honored and inspired by the level of collaboration from the Vatican.” Lervolino said.
