Power generation from Egbin, Shiroro plunges

Published

on

The nation’s biggest power station, Egbin, and one of the three hydropower plants, Shiroro, have recorded significant declines in their output.

Six of the nation’s 27 power plants were idle on Monday, according to industry data obtained by The PUNCH correspondent from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

Total generation capacity of 817 magawatts was unutilised that day as a result of low demand by Discos (667MW) and water management (150MW).

Egbin power plant, which is located in Lagos, saw its generation dropped to a low of 276MW as of 6.00am on Monday, compared to 491MW on December 24, 2018.
