NIGERIA AIRWAYS: Buhari approves part payment of ex-workers’ entitlements after 15yrs

The Presidency has responded to the latest statement made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo describing President Muhammadu Buhari’s government as a failure.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Obasanjo had said nothing new.

The former president had dismissed Buhari as a failure and called on Nigerians to reject him in the 2019 polls.

He also asked the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to stop complaining about the challenges it met on ground.

“The truth is this: when you have an ineffective and incompetent government, we are all victims. And don’t let anybody deceive you. Those of you who are in business, your business could have been better today if we have a competent and effective and performing government. As I said, stop giving excuses; we met challenges. If there are no challenges, then we wouldn’t need you to come. You come in because you know there are challenges and then giving us excuse that you have many challenges, that is why you haven’t achieved results.

“And then you still want to go. The first lesson I learnt in my military training is never reinforce failure. What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce failure. Let failure be failure. And if you do not see what you should see, you will then be a victim of what you don’t like because it’s only when you see what you should see and you do what you should do that you put away what you do not like. And if you don’t see what you should see and you don’t do what you should do, you will be a victim of what you don’t like”, Obasanjo said.

In his reaction, Adesina said President Buhari’s administration had taken it upon itself not to join issues with the ex-president.

He referenced the statement issued by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, in response to the earlier criticism by Obasanjo as having already addressed the issues raised.

The presidential aide insisted that the APC-led government would keep making reference to the failures of the past administration, something they did not see as complaining about the challenges of the country as interpreted by Obasanjo.

On the management of the economy, he noted that Nigeria now has more savings and accused the past administration of running the nation badly, despite the benefit of the price of crude under it.

Adesina said President Buhari’s government has recorded successes in improving the economy and infrastructure in the country.

On January 23, 2018, former President Obasanjo had issued a 13-page statement, criticising President Buhari’s performance and calling for a new movement to save the country from its challenges.

Adesina’s reaction was via a telephone interview with Channels Television on Monday.
