Presidency refutes claim Buhari didn’t follow due process in Maina’s sack

The Presidency has refuted the claim that President Muhammadu Buhari failed to follow due process in ordering the immediate dismissal of the former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, from service.

Buhari had on Monday, apparently following reports that Maina, who was accused of corruption and on wanted list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s had been reinstated into the civil service, ordered his immediate sack.

However, some commentators had accused the president of failure to follow due process in disengaging the fugitive. They had argued that Buhari’s directive was in violation of the provisions of the Civil Service Rule that stipulates how civil servants could be fired.

In its response, the Presidency said on its Twitter handle, NGRPresident, that it was incorrect for anyone to say that due process was not followed.

“Reports that due process was not followed in the disengagement of Mr. Maina from service are incorrect.

“The President directed the appropriate authorities to effect the disengagement in compliance with due process. President Buhari will continue to ensure that due process is followed every step of the way,” the tweet read.

President Buhari had also on Monday demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior.
