Trump dealt unsettling news as lawyer pleads guilty, ex-campaign chair convicted

A summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report revealed on Monday that US President Donald Trump’s campaign did not conspire with Russia during the 2016 election.

In Mueller’s findings sent to Congress, Attorney General Bill Barr said no Trump campaign official was involved in the Russian conspiracies to hack Democratic computers and flood social media with disinformation to harm Trump’s election rival Hillary Clinton.

“The special counsel did not find that the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts,” Bill added.

On the other hand, Barr said Mueller declined to reach a decision on the evidence against the president of obstruction – almost assuring that Democrats in Congress would push to investigate this further.

It was gathered that the report was the culmination of two years of investigation by Mr Mueller which saw some of the president’s closest former aides prosecuted and, in some cases, imprisoned, although not on charges related to the alleged Russian collusion.

Having repeatedly described the inquiry as a witch hunt, Mr Trump said it was an “illegal takedown that failed.”
