PRESIDENTIAL AIDE TO SENATORS: You were rejects until you rode on Buhari's back to Senate

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has hit hard at Nigerian senators, describing some of them as junks.

She stated this on Tuesday in response to a tweet by the senator representing Kaduna Central in the Senate, Shehu Sani.

Sani had in a tweet following Senate President Bukola Saraki’s current travails with the police, said that supporting the executive arm of government to prosecute the legislative arm is a dangerous precedent to Nigeria’s democracy.

He had tweeted, “Supporting the Executive to persecute the lawmakers is setting a dangerous precedent to democracy and nurturing the seed of absolute totalitarianism.”

Responding also in a tweet, Onochie wrote on her Twitter handle: “Turning the Nigerian Senate into a PLC that serves only the Senate cabal is a gross betrayal of the people of Nigeria who voted you to represent them.

“Some of you were rejects until you rode on the back of the leader of the executive, @MBuhari who you now seek to frustrate.”

These developments are coming on the heels of a police invitation to Saraki on Sunday to report to answer questions over his alleged involvement in the April 2018 Offa robbery attack in Kwara State that claimed the lives of about 30 persons including some policemen.

Though the police had backtracked on its earlier demand for Saraki to appear before it, it has however on Monday, asked the Senate president to respond to the claim in writing within 48 hours.

Recall that the National Assembly had in a joint session on Tuesday passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and threatened to invoke its full powers should Buhari fail to sack him.
