PRESIDENTIAL POLL: PDP, Atiku make first approach at Tribunal

Buhari is a joke, a parody of the 21st century —Atiku

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday filed an application before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal located on the premises of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.

In its application, the party and Atiku asked the tribunal to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow them inspect materials used for the conduct of the poll.

Incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated Atiku in the February 23 election.

But the PDP candidate and his party had since rejected the result of the poll and vowed to challenge it in court.

Consequently, through their lawyer, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), the petitioners filed an ex parte application seeking the Tribunal order granting them permission to inspect the Voters Registers, the Smart Card Reader Machines, ballot papers and other documents used for the conduct of the elections.

It is clear the petitioners may soon file an election petition before the tribunal having filed for inspection of election materials which usually precedes the filing of an election petition.
