Prices of cooking gas fall in May- NBS

Average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by -0.90% month-on-month and -2.13% year-on-year to N2,028.04 in May 2019 from N2,046.53 in April 2019.

The National Bureau of Statistics in its May 2019 report of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price watch released on Monday states that average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG decreased by -0.79% month-on-month and -1.82% year-on-year to N4,220.44 in May 2019 from N4,253.91 in April 2019.

A further analysis of the report as seen by our correspondent shows that Adamawa and Bauchi (N2,500.00), Yobe (N3,375.00) and Borno (N2,342.86) top the list of states with the highest average price for refilling of 5kg cylinder for LPG.

Meanwhile, states with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG were Bayelsa (N4,690.00), Akwa Ibom (N4,611.67) and Enugu (N4,608.33).

However, states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for LPG were Edo (N1,714.17), Abuja (N1,675.00) and Ebonyi (N1,666.67).

Katsina (N3,842.86), Kano (N3,825.00) and Ekiti (N3,806.25) were the top three states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG.

To arrive at this statistics, NBS collects fuel prices access all the 774 local governments across all states and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents and locations.

It then determines the actual prices households state they actually bought those fuels together with the prices reportedly sold by the fuel suppliers.
