Pro- Jonathan group protest EFCC probe of Patience in Enugu

Youths in their hundreds took to the streets of Enugu on Wednesday to protests the on-going Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC’s) probe of wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

The commission on its part, urged them to show some confidence in the ability of the court to handle the case of Mrs Jonathan.

Led by Comrade Victor Ezenagu, the Coordinator, Concerned Igbo Youths, the group contended that the investigation, which had led to the freezing of Mrs Jonathan’s account, was nothing but a premeditated move to humiliate ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Chanting war and solidarity songs, they marched straight to the Enugu office of the EFCC where they submitted a petition to the South-East zonal head of the commission, Mr. Johnson Babalola.

‎The group demanded among other things in the petition entitled, “Unjust Persecution and Desperate Plan to Humiliate Former President Goodluck Jonathan”, that the EFCC should unfreeze Mrs. Jonathan’s account.

Me Babalola told the protesters that though everyone has a right to air their views in a democracy; he nevertheless, urged them not to allow their peaceful protest to escalate into a violent rampage that could snowball into loss of lives or properties.

Mr. Babalola also informed the group and by extension, Nigerians that the case involving Dame Patience Jonathan, is out of the hands of the Commission and now in the hands of the Judiciary as the case is presently in court and not a matter for EFCC to decide which direction it goes or what happens.

He also assured the group that the EFCC is not after Mrs. Jonathan, but rather, it was investigation activities that led to her.
