Protest hits second Ondo State university

Days after students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), were sent home and the school locked, students of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa, on Monday morning took to the streets of the town to protest fee hike.

Both institutions, owned by the State government, have had their school fees increased.

The students disrupted academic and social activities on the campus during the protest against non-reduction of their school fees.

The students who reportedly paid between N150,000 and N200,000 last year are requesting a reduction in the fee.

Meanwhile, the management of the institution have shut down the school while the students have been asked to proceed on two-week mid-semester break.

A statement by the Registrar of the university, Mr Felix Akinnusi, read, ‘’In view of this development, the Senate has ordered the students to proceed on two weeks mid-semester break. The circular will be released soon.”
