Protesters confront Osinbajo in Adamawa

Some citizens of Adamawa State on Tuesday, came out in protest as Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo visited, to launch the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) in the state.

They claimed that the programme was a disguise of the suspended Ruga earlier suspended by the Federal Government.

But Osinbajo at the event at the Gongoshi Grazing Reserve in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of the state, Osibanjo  said, “The NLTP is a well thought out scheme for effective use of the ecosystem by modernising agriculture for farmers and herders alike.”

“In this plan, the Federal Government will not take any land from any state or local government. Any participating state will provide the land and its own contribution to the project. The FG merely support the project. It is a plan that hopes to birth tailor-made ranches where meat and dairy products are produced using modern livestock methods. This solves the problem of cattle herding, cattle rustling and the pressure exerted on water and land resources in the ecosystem.”

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Minister of Agriculture, Sabo Nanono, and his Federal Capital Territory counterpart, Musa Bello, who also at the event insisted that NTLP was not synonymous with RUGA.

But the protesters confronted the vice president with placards to express their disenchantment with the program.

Some of the placards described the NLTP as RUGA being rebranded with semantics.

Some of the inscriptions on their placard read, ‘Build our communities first,’ ‘No to foreign herdsmen, No to mobile herdsmen.’
