Sudan military agrees to a three-yr-transition to civil rule

Heavy gunfire and explosions were heard in Sudan’s capital on Monday as security forces used force to try and breakup the long-running sit-in outside of the army headquarters in Khartoum.

The sit-in has become the focal point of Sudan’s protest movement, which saw longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir overthrown in April and has since witnessed calls for the generals who replaced him to hand over power to a civilian-led administration.

According to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, a medical group connected to protesters, said at least five people were killed and several wounded during the raid, which was still in progress.

A journalist in Khartoum, Mohammed Alamin told Al Jazeera that troops from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) first used tear gas and sound grenade to disperse protesters before soldiers fired live rounds at the remaining protesters.
