Protests erupt in S.Korea as Park's critics call for her arrest

Angry South Korean’s are now calling for the arrest of impeached President Park Geun-hye who days ago was formally removed from office after a Constitutional Court unanimously ordered her to step down.

A spokesperson for the protesters supporting the court ruling, Choi In-sook, told Reuters news agency they were demanding the arrest of their former leader.

“We demand the arrest of Park Geun-hye and the resignation of acting president Hwang Kyo-ahn,” said Choi.

According Park’s aides, she had no immediate plans to issue a statement on the court decision or her future course of action.

“The president was apparently stunned at the ruling. She looked dejected,” an unidentified aide was quoted as saying. “She wants to keep to herself for a while,” he added.

Park’s verdict was delivered by eight judges assembled on Friday to issue a verdict to remove her from office over a corruption scandal.

It marks the first time a South Korean president has been ousted before the end of their term since democracy replaced dictatorship in the late 1980’s.
