PROTESTS: France moves to close Eifel Tower, Louvre, deploys 89,000 police

Authorities in France have moved to close the Eifel Tower and the Louvre following the recent wave of violent protests over the increase in diesel tax.

Reports say other tourism landmarks in Paris will also be closed as authorities have ordered the drafting of thousands more security forces in and around France.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe also said 89,000 police nationwide would be deployed to stop a repeat of last Saturday’s mayhem across France.

French President Emmanuel Macro was forced to ditch the policy to increase fuel tax days ago following wild protests by demonstrators across the country.

Reports say Macron scrapped the hike amid fears of new violence after weeks of nationwide protests and the worst rioting in Paris in decades.
