Protests in Jos as 14 people are gruesomely murdered

Protests have broken out in the Rukuba Barack road area of Jos, the Plateau State capital over the gruesome murder of 14 people.

The protest which broke out Friday morning threw the area into pandemonium as residents closed their shops and offices and scampered for safety.

The protesters were demonstrating against the alleged killing of about 14 persons at Rukuba road by unknown gunmen, who were said to have attacked the home of a famous woman in the area called Mama-Kogi at about 9 pm on Thursday.

During the alleged attack, the woman and members of her family including Blessing, Ruth, Jonathan, Cynthia and Majesty, as well as some others in the neighbourhood were murdered.

The protest which started at Rukuba Barack road area of Jos later degenerated into violence and also escalated to Gada-biu, where two other persons were killed, and Akpata, where another person was also killed, as well as other parts of the city.

Security personnel were said to have later showed up in the affected areas to quell the violence.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that more persons may have been killed in the violence even as there are still fears of resurgence of the violence.
