'Proud moment' for Rooney as he becomes joint top scorer at Man United

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s United’s goal-scoring record after his goal in the Red Devil’s 4-0 win against Reading on Saturday.

The Jose Mourinho’s side thumped Reading four goals to nothing in the third round of the FA Cup at the Old Trafford, where Rooney’s goal set for him a record.

The 31-year-old, who opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the FA Cup tie, drew level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally with his 249th goal in Red Devils colours.

“It’s a proud moment,” Rooney said.

“To do so at such a massive club like Manchester United, I’m hugely honoured to play for this football club.

“To be up there in terms of goals with Sir Bobby is a really proud moment for me.

“I’ll enjoy today because it’s a real honour,” he stated.
