Prove you’re not a liar hired to attack me, Jonathan challenges ex-EFCC boss Waziri

President Robert Mugabe is under house arrest in Zimbabwe, South Africa said Wednesday, adding it was sending envoys on behalf of the region’s bloc after the army apparently took over.

“President Zuma spoke to President Robert Mugabe earlier today who indicated that he was confined to his home but said that he was fine,” the South African government said in a statement.

“Zuma, in his capacity as Chair of the Southern African Development Community, is sending Special Envoys to Zimbabwe.”

South Africa will send its intelligence and defence ministers, the statement said.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chair, Farida Waziri, as a liar hired to attack him.

He was responding to a recent accusation by Waziri, who had in a statement on Sunday claimed that she was sacked by Jonathan’s administration after she called the bluff of the previous government’s interference in a criminal case she was investigating.

Waziri had in the statement which she released through Mr. Femi Babafemi said, “I’m only glad that those things didn’t happen under my watch as the EFCC chairman because it would have been too traumatic for me. And that is why if I see President Jonathan today, I will kneel down to thank him for the honour done me by removing me as the EFCC chairman at the time he did.

“My first strong premonition of what was ahead was when I began probe of the monumental oil subsidy fraud going on then. I came to Lagos on a vital intelligence on the subsidy scam and as soon as I arrested a key culprit, I got a call from the Presidential Villa asking me to release the suspect, because, in their words, ‘he is our person,’ but I refused to let him off and days after, I was removed from office.”

According to Waziri, the present acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, was lucky he has the personal support of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, reacting on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Jonathan wondered how Waziri could be making such an allegation if not hired to do so.. He therefore challenged her to mention the person or company she was investigating before she was sacked.

“If Farida is not telling lies she should mention the person or company she was investigating and she was stopped, let the @officialEFCC investigate. Crime has no statute bar. If she can’t then she was simply hired to attack me,” he said.
