Russian President Vladimir Putin has commended US President Donald Trump for his planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

According to Putin, the move by Trump to set up a meeting with Kim was “brave and mature”, he also added that he was expecting a “positive outcome”.

“I still hope that this meeting – a very brave and mature decision U.S. President Donald Trump has made, to have direct contacts with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un – will take place, and we all expect a positive outcome,” Putin said in an interview with China Media Group.

On Friday, Trump, in a complete reversal, said he would hold the meeting with Kim after initially canceling it, citing what he called Pyongyang’s “open hostility”.

Trump has revealed that the proposed meeting with the North Korean leader will be staged on June 12 in Singapore.

Reports say the new date was arrived at after a two-hour meeting with North Korean senior official Kim Yong-chol at the White House.
