Quilox is new arena for celebrity fights

Nightlife on the island got a new meaning when Club Quilox berthed on the scene providing a luxurious style of nightclubing and in no time it was regarded as one of the biggest and most expensive nightclubs in Nigeria.

But Club Quilox (which also operates as restaurant and bar) owned by CEO of Aquila Group, Shina Peller is gradually becoming notorious for infamous fight between pop stars and sometimes, the pop stars squaring up to or having an axe to grind with the management of the upscale watering hole.

Ever since Club Quilox opened its doors to the public in 2013, there have been a number of high profile fights and misunderstandings between disgruntled artists who sometimes chose the venue to settle scores or situations where the artistes themselves do not like the way and manner the management of the nightclub runs its business.

The first major face-off trailing the nightclub was a misunderstanding between rapper, M.I who took to Twitter on Sunday, March 1, 2015, in a rage, claiming he was disrespected alongside his band while they were performing. He also called for the sack of the manager who was on duty when the incident happened.

Quilox later tendered an apology in a statement on April 22, 2015, and two days later, M.I and Shina Peller resolved the issue amicably when they both met at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference.

Next was the well-publicised beef between Davido and Shina Peller which according to reports lasted for five months. The rancour was also characterised by a back-and-forth by both parties and their fans on social media.

The beef was finally quashed when Davido was invited over by Shina Peller for a hang-out at Quilox with both parties seen shaking hands and laughing together as they partied all night.

But months later, the duels became bloodier and more controversial when in January 2016; Wizkid did the unthinkable when he left his fellow colleague, DammyKrane, bloodied, after smashing a bottle on his head.

According to reports, Wizkid was enraged after DammyKrane tweeted very strong allegations against him and as soon as he sighted the artiste who is now signed onto Davido’s label when he arrived Quilox with his entourage, he struck him with a bottle on the head and also left him with a cut on his chin.

The squabble was however resolved almost immediately when Shina Peller and ex-Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins wadded into the matter.

In a recent incident, father of two, Oritsefemi was beaten black and blue at Quilox nightclub three nights ago after the musician allegedly slapped and stabbed a bouncer just above the eye following an altercation which went bloody.

Oritsefemi was reportedly miffed when the bouncer did not allow another musician – Sound Sultan from getting to a particular section of the club which made him pounce on the body guard, thereby inflicting bodily harm on him.

The musician was however bundled out by security operatives of the nightclub and given the beating of his life for daring to inflict harm on the bouncer.

Quilox later released a statement claiming, “The bouncer politely approached Oritsefemi and told him that the Patron who owned the table he was sitting did not want any of Oritsefemi’s guest joining in as the patrons guests were still being expected. However Oritsefemi in a fit of unprovoked rage slapped the bouncer then proceeded to breaking a glass in his hand and stabbing him in the eye.”

Oritsefemi however, owned up to being at fault when he wrote on his Instagram page three days after the incident saying; “I want to thank you all for your support over the years and I understand if you are angry with me, I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you to those that have reached out to me.

“There is no ‘Oritsefemi’ without you my lovely fans. This will never happen again. Lessons learnt. I will continue to give you good music that I am known for not violence. Thank you once again and God bless you all for me….much love my people”. He posted on Instagram.

But on a closer look, one thread runs through the incidents mentioned in this article and that clearly is the management of the nightclub which may also have its shortcomings.

Could it be that they are inept in their approach of effectively handling and managing communication channels between them and the celebrities in question as it were? Or could it just be lack of understanding of the rules of the nightclub that is playing out after all?!
