Race for Gov Mimiko’s successor swells

Published

on

Another Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s commissioner, resigned on Tuesday, making a total of three, in weeks.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that more may still have to resign in the days ahead. The reason for their resignation has been hinged on their ambition to aspire for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate for the coming governorship election in the state.
There is also the suspicion that some of the commissioners are resigning because of their dissatisfaction with the governor’s alleged anointed candidate.
The latest to resign was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Bamiduro Dada.
His resignation came less than one week after the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), who is said to be the choice of the governor, resigned.
Before Jegede’s resignation, was the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sola Ebiseni, who also quitted Mimiko’s cabinet.
Before the resignation of any of these commissioners, was that of Mimiko’s Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, Mosunmola Awotula, popularly called Iron Lady, who dumped PDP for APC.
The suspicion that Governor Mimiko has already chosen Jegede as his preferred successor, Ripples Nigeria reported, has thrown up pockets of opposition in the ruling party in the state.
As the race to the November 26, governorship election in Ondo state continue to heat up, is left to be seen, how many more commissioners will resign to join the governorship race.
And how PDP will handle the effects of these events may go a long way to decide its success or failure in the coming elections.
