Rain stalls U-23 Eagles friendly in Atlanta

Heavy rainfall has forced the postponement of a friendly match between Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles and United Soccer League club Charleston Battery due to a waterlogged pitch.

The match was scheduled for 8pm local time Saturday, which was 1am Nigerian time on Sunday.

According to the club officials, the game was called off few hours to kickoff at the Silverbacks Park because the pitch was flooded.

According to a statement on the club’s official Twitter account, the friendly game has been rescheduled for 10pm on Sunday which is 3am in Nigerian time.

The Coach Samson Siasia side who have been training in Atlanta in readiness for the Rio Olympics next month, are also scheduled to face another Rio-bound team Honduras before they depart the United States of America on July 29.

Nigeria defeated Honduras 3-1 at the recent Suwon International Tournament, which also featured hosts South Korea and Denmark.
