Real Madrid beat Atletico, win 11th Champions League title

Real Madrid have won a record 11th Champions League title after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Atletico Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo was presented with the opportunity to clinch the trophy for Madrid when Juanfran missed Atletico’s fourth penalty, and the Portugal international made no mistake.
Sergio Ramos had earlier opened the scoring from close-range in the 14th minute and for most of the game it seemed like the Spanish defender’s goal would be enough for victory.
Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann missed a glorious chance to equalise early in the second-half when his penalty struck the crossbar before bouncing the wrong side of Madrid’s goal-line.
But ten minutes from time – and moments after Cristiano Ronaldo had spurned an opportunity to double Madrid’s lead – substitute Yannick Ferreira Carrasco finished off a fine Atletico move to take the game into extra-time.
When neither side could find a breakthrough in extra-time, the biggest prize in club football was decided on penalties.
