Spanish champions, Real Madrid have crashed out of the Copa del Rey as Leganes pulled off a shock 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu to reach the semi-finals for the first time ever.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, the visitors reached the semi-finals with a 2-2 win on aggregate, on the strength of away goals from Eraso and Gabriel, as Karim Benzema’s goal was not enough for Real.

Although Real were without both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale for the game, Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema were in action as both players made their first starts of 2018.

The 19-time Copa del Rey winners have lost four La Liga games this season and trail leaders Barcelona by 19 points.

Their last realistic hope of silverware this season rests with the Champions League, and they face a tough tie with Ligue 1 giants Paris St-Germain on February 14.

In the other quarter-final Copa del Rey tie played on Wednesday, Valencia scaled through on penalty shoot out, after falling 2-1 to Alaves at 120 minutes to stay 3-3 on aggregate.
