Spanish giants, Real Madrid were stunned by Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu as the visitors won their La Liga clash 2-1 on Sunday.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the dying minutes when defender Sergio Ramos was sent off for a second yellow card.

According to stats company, OptaJoe, Ramos has been sent off 19 times – more times than any other player in La Liga history.

Real took the lead in the 25th minute when Casemiro powerfully headed in from Toni Kroos’ deep cross from the right wing.

The home side led into the break, but Girona soon earned a penalty after Ramos’ handball, and Cristhian Stuani converted to level.

Portugués Manzanera then netted the winner for Girona with a diving header after Anthony Lozano’s shot had been parried by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

With the defeat, Real failed to go second in La Liga, as they stand two points behind Atletico Madrid, who won 1-0 over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

Real are nine points behind leaders Barcelona, who also won 1-0 against Real Valladolid on Saturday.
