Real Madrid outclass Barcelona to win Spanish Super Cup

La Liga champions, Real Madrid, beat Cup holders, Barcelona, 2-0 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night to win the Spanish Super Cup 5-1 on aggregate.

Real, who are now Champions League, La Liga, Uefa Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup holders, were dominant in the game, even with the absence of suspended Christiano Ronaldo.

With just four minutes on the clock, Marco Asensio, who also scored in the 3-1 first-leg win, put the hosts ahead with an excellent 25-yard strike.

Karim Benzema later flicked up Marcelo’s cross to fire home a second before the break.

After the break, Barca did improve, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both hitting the woodwork in pursuit of a consolation. But Madrid were able to see the game out with ease.

“This team is not going to get tired of winning. #Supercampeones… of Spain!
#HalaMadrid,” Sergio Ramos tweeted after the victory.

The La Liga champions will now begin their title defence away to Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, August 20 as the season kicks off in Spain.

Barca will also get their league campaign under way on Sunday at home to Real Betis.
