Real reasons EFCC broke into Sambo’s office

Facts have emerged why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, raided the Abuja office of former Vice President Namadi Sambo at the weekend.

The raid is believed to be a fall out of the arrest and subsequent release of one of his aides, one Daboh, who was allegedly given N25 million by the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh as part of the money he received from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

The anti-graft agency was said to have believed they could get incriminating evidence in the office, to support the investigation into the activities of Sambo while he was in office.

Also the raid was believed to have been carried out because the agency thought there may be a heavy cache of foreign currencies, as the former VP was said to have moved documents in several “Ghana Must Go” bags to the office few days to the raid. These bags were thought to have contained foreign currencies.

However, the raid yielded some results, as the operatives took away bank transaction details, property documents, asset declaration forms, $50,000 kept in his safe and top branded wrist watches.

In a swift reaction to the raid, lawyers to the former VP described the raid as improper, accusing the operatives of breaking into the office without a search warrant. They also sent a letter of protest to the EFCC, asking the agency to repair properties destroyed during the raid.

In the same vein, a source close to Sambo said the EFCC operatives were disappointed that they could not find any reasonable amount of money or any serious evidence of corruption against the former president.

Na wa o!! These Gestapo style raids on people’s homes and offices are becoming worrisome. And why did the EFCC cart way the man’s belongings? Today it is Dasuki, Sambo and members the ignoble PDP. I just wonder who it might be tomorrow. I insist that the good intention of fighting corruption is not good enough to trample the rights of Nigerians and the laws of the land underfoot
