National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh yesterday said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, his former vice, Atiku Abubakar and some other founding members of the party left the PDP because they could not stand the competition within the party.

According to him, some left because they felt their interests were not protected enough, whle others left because the party lost the last general election.

Metuh who spoke at a press conference in Abuja said: “In PDP, no matter where you come from or who you are, you compete. People left because they could not stand competition. Some members felt that they were not well protected when they sought assistance.

“Others left because we lost election, others for individual ambition, while some others left when they honestly felt they were not accommodated in the party.

“We recall with pride that the founding fathers of the PDP are heroes who rose to the challenge, stood up for millions of other citizens, confronted the military and restored genuine democracy, national unity and stability, entrenched the rule of law and enlarged the political space we all enjoy today”.

Some of the foundation members who quit the PDP are Mr. Audu Ogbeh, Senator Barnabas Gemade and Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Other members who left include a former National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Also, five of the party’s former governors left in 2013, namely: Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Musa Kwankwaso (Kano); Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); and Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara).

The party’s spokesman, however, said despite the loss of the presidency, the PDP was in the process of being repositioned to reconnect with the people and ensure that its position was not misunderstood.

According to him, the party will soon organise a national conference where the reasons why PDP performed poorly in the last general elections would be dissected.

Discussions at the planned conference, Metuh said, would be based on the findings by the Senator Ike Ekweremadu led post-election assessment committee.

You lost your founding fathers and such calibre of personalities at a go and you think you still exist? Hmmm, day dreaming

Failure analysis is more like it @ post election assessment. Leadership failure is what led to PDP’s fall from their exalted and much enjoyed throne.
A re-positioned PDP will be a plus to our democracy though.

Nothing has ever remained the same in life
It’s soldier go, soldier come, barracks remain the same

APC can not stay long with the way they are behaving(denials of campaign promises on daily basis) and fight for positions instead of the masses

Hmmm, for PDP to stage a comeback, now is the time

It will be a good thing if more of the founding fathers can leave as most of them are nothing but self serving raiders of the commonwealth. To me, it is good riddance to bad rubbish. May be PDP will regroup to become a party of an ideological leaning aimed at saving Nigeria. APC cannot save Nigeria because all the criminals from PDP are now the core of the party. This generation of Nigerians are a lost and doomed generation. Sad, really sad.

I don’t think it was just the competition, I will prefer you call it marginalisation, unfair treatment and poor crisis management by the then party leaders who fail to understand that nothing on earth last forever…
Let’s hope the APC don’t end the same way because they are trading on a very dangerous ground now.
God bless Nigeria and give a detribalised and a bridge builder as a leader..

With the towering performance of PMB
in less than 100days Metuh’s enthusiasm on Pdp’s resuscitation would be nothing but a pipe dream.Something fundamental has happened to governance in Nigeria the gains of which would impact the whole fabric of the Nation positively in two years. My hunch is that even survivors in Pdp would beg Buhari to go for second term. The singular reason being that the president will not steal and will not allow others to steal, even Apc as it were would’ve undergone so much transforming surgical mutations that would consume any untoward tendencies ingrained in the party.
