RECALL: Senator Melaye drags INEC to court

The embattled Senator Dino Melaye on Friday said that he has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission at the Abuja Federal High Court over the purported move to recall him from the Senate.

Melaye’s continous stay at the Senate has been under threat after his constituency, Kogi West senatorial district, started the process of recalling him.

INEC had on Wednesday received in six bags signatories from some voters in Kogi West endorsing the recall of Melaye.

Announcing the reception of the votes on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, explained that following the petition on the development submitted to the commission on Wednesday, that INEC had sat and looked into the matter.

He said that the commission will “on the 3rd of July, 2017 issue a public notice stating the day(s), time, location and other details for the verification exercise.”

But Melaye, in a series of tweets on his twitter handle on Friday said that he has initiated a court case against INEC over the issue.

He tweeted, “I have filed my case against INEC today at the Federal High Court Abuja today (Friday).

“Even dead people were among those who signed petition to recall Dino Melaiye. Lmaooo”

Melaye has maintained that the state Governor Yahaya Bello is behind the move to recall him and has described the exercise as a futile one and a comedy of errors that will lead to nowhere.
