Relief as petroleum products depot owners suspend shutdown order

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMAN, have suspended its shutdown directives to its members.

The association also directed its members to recall workers earlier asked to stay home, while loading activities are expected to commence from today, Monday.

DAPPMAN had directed its members on Sunday to down tools and shutdown their depots over the lingering unpaid subsidy claims the association puts at N800 billion the Federal Government is owing oil marketers in the country.

The shutdown order came barely 24 hours after the Federal Government said it would pay the marketers the sum of N246 billion naira by Friday, the 14th of December through promissory notes.

The suspension of the shutdown order was ccontained in a letter signed by Olufemi Adewole, the Executive Secretary of DAPPMAN and sighted by Ripples.

According to DAPPMAN, the suspension became necessary after intervention by well meaning individuals, including the Senate committee on petroleum, downstream and interface by the Federal Government team.

The association further stated that it would await government’s action on the proposed payment before issuing further directives, while directing its members to commence full activities at the depot pending further directives.
