Reps give Osinbajo one-week ultimatum to swear in ministers-designate

The House of Representatives on Tuesday called on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to swear in two ministers-designate within the next one week.

Their call follows the delay in the swearing in of Prof. Stephen Ocheni from Kogi State and Suleiman Hassan from Gombe State who were confirmed by the Senate on May 3.

The resolution followed a motion by Hon Karimi Sunday (Kogi- PDP) brought under matters of urgent national importance.

He argued that by not swearing in the two cleared appointees, their respective states were not being represented in the Federal Executive Council.

Sunday added that the council as presently constituted is a breach of Section 14(2) and 147(3) of the 1999 Constitution.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon Lasun Yussuff, who presided at the plenary put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted by the House.

The appointment of the two ministers by President Buhari was done to replace James Ocholi, the late Minister of State for Labour, who represented Kogi State, and Amina Mohammed, former Minister of Environment, who is the current United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.
Ocholi died along with his wife and son in a ghastly auto crash.
