The lower chamber of the National Assembly on Thursday achieved a milestone by presenting 130 bills on the floor of the House.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara, while speaking on the bills, said it was the first batch of the promise made to Nigerians that all aspects of the nation’s statute books would be reviewed with a view of bringing them in conformity with new realities.

“This is the first set of the intervention bills to be presented and there are still more in my office. The intention is to review the statute books so that they are no longer whimsically thrown away at the whims and caprices of any leader. Today, we are fulfilling the promise we made to Nigerians and we are assuring Nigerians that they are going to be passed before the last quarter of next year,” he said.

To make good his promise, the Speaker asked the House to hit the ground running by directing House Committee on Rules and Business to list the first 20 bills for presentation for second reading next week.

He also implored his colleagues to take up the remaining bills for subsequent presentation for first reading.
