Reps reward Paralympian with N18m

The members of House of Representatives have rewarded the victorious Team Nigeria athletes to the just concluded Rio Paralympics Games in Brazil on Wednesday with a sum of 18 million naira for their heroic feat at the Games.

The 109 members after adopting a motion by Ayo Omidiran, APC, Osun, agreed to donate N50,000 each which make a total of 18 million naira.

The lawmakers also resolved to host members of the team at a special plenary session.

Omodiran said, “The athletes tough physically-challenged, did what has never been done in the history of Nigerian athletics and that is they needed the support and encouragement of the House.”

She added that, “We decided to set the pace and not to wait for the Executives to reward the team. The team did well and they deserved to be rewarded more because they are special athletes with special needs.”

According to the chairman of the House committee on sports, Goni Bukar, APC, Bauchi said the performance of the Nigeria Paralympics Team was outstanding and should be replicated by other Nigerian athletes.
