Reps summon Wike, DSS chief, others over insecurity in FCT
The House of Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, over the worsening security in the nation’s capital.
The lawmakers also summoned the FCT Commissioner of Police, Peter Opara, and other security stakeholders over the matter.
This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Haruna Dabo, during the plenary in Abuja.
The lawmaker pointed his colleagues’ attention to the menace of “one chance” robbery gangs who killed his aide, Nimah Sulaiman, last Thursday.
He expressed concern over the growing cases of kidnapping and robbery in the FCT.

Dabo said: “It has been a tumultuous and scary situation for people living within the capital territory. The use of unregistered and unpainted taxis has further exacerbated the situation, providing an easy conduit for criminal activities within the capital city.”
The House in its resolution directed its Committees on FCT, Police, and National Security and Intelligence to summon the minister and other key stakeholders to provide a detailed briefing on the security situation in the city.
The parliament also mandated its Committee on FCT to investigate the widespread use of unregistered and unpainted taxis in Abuja and recommend measures to check their operations.
