The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to investigate alleged smuggling in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the lawmakers representing Badagry Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Oluwaseun Whingan, at the plenary in Abuja.

In his presentation. Whingan decried the behaviour of Customs officers at border posts across the country.

He recalled the assault of a journalist by some officers attached to the service while the former was recording activities at a location in Badagry.

The lawmakers called for the investigation of the Customs legal framework and the activities of its officers while carrying out their duties.

The House in its resolution referred the matter to its Committee on Customs and Excise for follow up.
