Rescue officials poised to extract remaining 4 Thai soccer team, coach from cave

Rescue operation enters the third day as efforts continue towards the extraction of the remaining four members and coach of a youth football team who are trapped in a northern Thailand cave.

Reports say the rescuers aim to extract all remaining four boys, the youngest of whom is 11 years old, as well as their 25-year-old coach on Tuesday.

“All five will be brought out at the same time today,” Osottanakorn said as attending reporters and rescue workers cheered.

Since the operation started on Sunday, eight boys had been pulled out and were transferred to a hospital in Chiang Rai, about 60km away from the cave complex, to receive treatment.

The rescued boys are being kept apart from their family for the time being over infection concerns, the chief of mission Narongsak Osottanakorn revealed.

Osottanakorn added that doctors would decide on family visits “at a distance or through glass”.
