Jibrin denies asking Buhari to resign

Controversial and suspended House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency in Kano state, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to pardon him over his recent advice for him to resign.

The former House of Reps Appropriation Committee chairman who was suspended over allegations he levelled on principal officers of the House on padding of the 2016 budget, had on March 30, advised President Buhari to resign.

In tweets on his twitter handle entitled, ‘PMB, time to go,’ Jibrin stated that “so many issues are left unattended even small issues that a presidential cough can deal with are left hanging.” He therefore called on the President to resign so that he can go and rest at home.

His advice was sequel to the President’s medical leave in the United Kingdom where he spent 49 days and perceived rift existing in the Presidency, as well as the face-off between the legislature and the executive arms of government.

However, addressing his supporters at his residence shortly after conducting special prayer for the President in Kofa Juma’at Mosque, Bebeji Local Government Area of the state on Friday, Jibrin said he apologised for his advice to President Buhari which has been misconstrued.

He said, “I apologise to President, APC, Gov.Abdullahi Ganduje and all APC supporters over what I said even though it was misinterpreted and misconstrued. To my party supporters, leaders, friends and all those who felt offended over my comments, I sincerely apologise.

“While I offered the advice and proffered solutions in good faith, some political detractors availed themselves of the opportunity to deliberately misconstrue and misjudge my remarks in order to put me on coalition (sic) course with my party and President.”

Alhaji Bala Shuaibu, chairman of APC Kofa ward, who also addressed the supporters referred those who protested against Jibrin following the statement at the state party secretariat in Kano as mere rented crowd and opportunists.

He assured Jibrin of the total support of the constituents adding what he said in his tweeter handle was not reported in details, which gave room for unnecessary misinterpretation.

Jibrin’s call for Buhari to resign had also drawn the ire of some members of his constituency who promised to initiate a recall process against him.
