Retired Naval officer found dead in kidnappers’ hideout

A retired eighty year old Naval Captain, Stephen Okumor, has been found dead at the hideout of kidnappers who abducted him in Olomoro community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Okumor, who was kidnapped from his residence at Ada-Irri in the same council area was discovered dead by policemen from Oleh divisional headquarters that had gone for his rescue.

The discovery led to pandemonium in the community, as irate youths set the house serving as the kidnappers hideout ablaze after two of the abductors were arrested by the police.

A source said: “The police stormed the community after a tip-off and moved into the building where the kidnap victim was kept.

“In the process, they arrested two kidnappers. Unfortunately, the old man was found dead.

“As the kidnappers were being taken out of the community, some youths mobilized and set the building where the victim was kept ablaze.”

The Delta State police command spokesman, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incidence, said the kidnap was masterminded by a nephew of the deceased who, he said, confessed to the crime after his arrest.

Aniamaka added that the deceased retired from the Navy about 15 years ago and that a locally made cut to size double barrel gun was recovered from the kidnapers.
