Ribadu appears for Buhari at Tribunal

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu on Tuesday appeared as lawyer for President Muhammadu Buhari in a suit restraining his (Buhari’s) swearing in before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and its Candidate for the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Chief Ambrose Owuru who got 1,663 votes had filed the suit before the Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa-led tribunal.

Ribadu is among Buhari’s Team of lawyers led by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

The petitioners are seeking an order of the tribunal to restrain President Buhari from presenting himself on May 29 or any other date “for swearing in or inauguration ceremony or taking the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office as the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, pending the determination of this petition and the question as to whether he has been validly elected as challenged and pending before the court”.

Also in their petition marked CA/ PEPC/001/2019, they are praying the tribunal to nullify the outcome of the election and order a fresh poll.

Joined in the suit are the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The respondents applied for a short adjournment to enable them respond to the motion.

Consequently, Tribunal adjourned the case till May 22 for hearing.
