Rio Olympics: Senate to probe Dalung, NFF

The leadership of Nigeria upper chambers, the Senate, has concluded plans to probe Nigeria’s dismal outing and shameful scandals at the just concluded 2016 Rio Olympics.

Nigeria’s participation at the Olympics was marred by athletes’ complain of lack of training kits, poor welfare package, players protest amongst other issues.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Senator Obinna Ogba, chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, who was part of the official delegation to Brazil, said the Senate would look into the actions of key actors from the Sports Ministry led by Solomon Dalung, the National Olympic Committee and the Nigeria Football Federation when it resumed from recess next month.

“My committee intends to invite the NOC to come and brief us on the Olympics. Apart from the late arrival of our athletes’ kits, you can see even our national anthem at the opening ceremony was the wrong one. So, all these, we are going to find out what happened when we resume,” Ogba said.

He added that only President Muhammed Buhari can determine the fate of the Sports Minister whom many have called for his resignation while urging the President to allocate more funding to sports.
