Rio ticket excites Brume as Oduduru outshines Egwero

Nigeria long jump women champion, Ese Brume, has expressed delight after qualifying for the Rio Olympic Games at the Akure Golden League Monday night.

The University of Benin undergraduate jumped a distance of 6.83m at the final leg of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria organised Golden League in Akure thereby surpassing the 6.70m qualification standard set by the AFN.

“I am so excited and grateful to God for achieving my target, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and African Senior Athletics Championship defending champion said.

“I am looking forward now to defend my title at the African Championships and also to repeat my Commonwealth Games feat at the Olympics. I am very confident of making the country proud. With hard work and God on my side, i know i can make it.”

Meanwhile, former junior international, Divine Oduduru, achieved his personal best in the men’s 100m, beating Ogho-Oghene Egwero to the finishing line at the Akure meet.

Oduduru former PB was 10.30secs but he won in 10.29secs, although a far cry from the qualifying standard for the Olympics.

The 2014 World Junior silver medalist, has already qualified for the Olympics in the 200m for men.
