The stage may be set for a battle of wits between Rivers State governor, Nyesome Wike, and local government chairmen in the state over the dissolution of the local government councils that were sworn in by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi in the twilight of his exit.
Already, youths claiming to be in support of the 22 council chairmen, on Thursday protested, what they said was a plan by Governor Nyesom Wike to dissolve the elected council executive in the 22 local government areas.
The protesters barricaded the ever busy Moscow road leading to the Rivers state House of Assembly in Port Harcourt.
Chairman, Degema local government area, Sogbeye Eli who is among the council Chairmen leading the protest said they were out to resist what he dubbed attempt to dissolve elected councils in the state using the state House of Assembly.
