Rivers PDP, APC spar over call for Amaechi’s resignation, as public spat lingers

Call for the resignation of Rotimi Amaechi as a minister by the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been mocked by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The state’s PDP publicity secretary, Mr Samuel Nwanosike, had on Wednesday, in Port Harcourt, called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Transportation, Amaechi, on the argument that he had failed to live up to the campaign promises his party made to the state.

He said: “Look at the Port Harcourt International Airport, which he used as a campaign tool against the government of Jonathan, two years later, nothing has been done since Amaechi became minister other than what former President Jonathan did in the past.”

He accused Amaechi of failure to attract any federal presence to the state and berated him over alleged plot to privatise Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

He added, “Having looked at Amaechi’s activities, I have come to the conclusion that he has failed and should resign.”

But in its response, APC’s publicity secretary in the state, Mr Chris Finebone, mocked the allegation that Amaechi has not been performing.

He said, “The APC will not want to believe that Nwanosike, the publicity secretary of PDP is calling for the resignation of Amaechi on account of non-performance. The truth is that Nigerians know and can easily attest that Amaechi as Minister of Transportation is performing excellently.

The PDP members know this except Nwanosike and it is indeed a pity.”

Bickering between the two parties seems to has become recurring in a state faced with issues of power struggles between forces loyal to incumbent Governor Wike and present Minister of Transport and Aviation, Rotimi Amaechi, who is also a former governor of the state.

Amaechi and pdp will continue to be on loggerheads since he was part of people who destroyed the party when he decamped to the apc. Well, let them hear it loud and clear that Amaechi won’t resign no matter what.

Please what exactly do they want Amawchi to do? He can’t do beyond what he can achieve, Buhari that made him minister knows he cannot perform, he only wants him closer because of his loyalist to him.

If the PDP wants Amaechi to vacate his seat because he has failed to keep to his campaign promises, then More minister and will also leave, including Mr President. The minister of Finance, Minister of power and the president have all failed to fulfill their campaign promises.

These problems started with PDP, and they have to keep their mouth shut until this administration is over. We’ve had enough of their lies and fraudulent activities. Amaechi is not working, at least he’s not it stealing from the public like most ministers did under Jonathan’s administration.
